Ayşe Erek, İstanbul’da yaşayan bir araştırmacı ve yazar. Erek, güncel sanat ve mekânsal pratikler üzerine İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi’nde Sanat Tarihi doktorası yaptı ve Berlin Humboldt Üniversitesi Georg Simmel Metropol Çalışmaları Merkezi’nde doktora sonrası araştırmacısı olarak çalıştı, ders verdi. Sergileme pratikleri, modernite tarihleri ve kentsel bağlamda estetiğin politikası üzerine çok sayıda yayına yazar ve editör olarak katkıda bulundu. Yakın zamanda “Stay Calm: Arts for the Future in Istanbul” [Sakin Kal: İstanbul’da Gelecek için Sanat] başlıklı makalesi, Istanbul. Passion, Joy, Fury sergi kitabı içinde (Maxxi Müzesi, 2016) ve eş yazarlı “Disappearing History: Challenges of Imagining Berlin after 1989” [Kaybolan Tarih: 1989’dan Sonra Berlin’i Tahayyül Etmenin Zorlukları] (2017) başlıklı kitap bölümü, Berghahn Books tarafından basılan Cultural Topographies of the New Berlin kitabında yer aldı. Kadir Has Üniversitesi’nde Tasarım Araştırmaları Yüksek Lisans Programı direktörü olarak görev yapıyor; sanat, tasarım ve kent üzerine disiplinlerüstü araştırmaya yönelik yöntem ve formatlar üzerine çalışıyor ve yazıyor. 

Ayse Erek is a researcher and writer based in Istanbul. She received a PhD in Art History at Istanbul Technical University on contemporary art and spatial practices, and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Humboldt University Georg-Simmel Centre for Metropolitan Studies in Berlin. She has contributed to numerous publications as writer and editor on exhibiting practices, histories of modernity and politics of aesthetics in the urban context. Her recent publications include ‘Stay Calm: Arts for the Future in Istanbul’ at the exhibition book of Istanbul. Passion, Joy, Fury published by Maxxi Museum (2016), and a co-authored book chapter titled ‘Disappearing History: Challenges of Imagining Berlin after 1989’ in Cultural Topographies of the New Berlin published by Berghahn Books (2017). She is Associate Professor at Kadir Has University in Istanbul where she serves as Director of Design Research Graduate Program working and writing on methods and formats of transdisciplinary research on issues concerning art, design and the city.
