Defne Kırmızı sanat tarihi alanında doktora çalışmalarını Boston Üniversitesi Sanat ve Mimarlık Tarihi bölümünde sürdürmektedir. Doktora tez çalışması Türkiye sanat ortamında 1974-1988 yılları arasında düzenlenmiş tekrarlı ve grup sergiler aracılığıyla filizlenen kavramsal sanat pratiklerine odaklanıyor. 2016 yılından beri Boston Üniversitesi ve Bilkent Üniversitesi’nde modern ve çağdaş sanat ve mimarlık alanında eğitmenlik yapmaktadır.

Defne Kırmızı is a PhD candidate at the History of Art and Architecture Department at Boston University, where she is currently working on her dissertation that focuses on the emergence of conceptual art practices through recurring group exhibitions in Turkey between the years 1974-1988. She has been teaching global modern and contemporary art in Boston University, MA and Bilkent University, Ankara since 2016. She has received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master of Arts in Media and Visual Studies from Bilkent University, and Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts with concentration of photography from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
